In celebration of the United Nations International Human Rights Day, on Saturday December 12, 2009 United4Iran will host Arts United4Iran, a day devoted to worldwide displays of musical, visual, and performing arts related to the issue of human rights in Iran. We aim to use ArtsUnited4Iran to raise international awareness about past and continuing human rights violations in Iran. Musicians, artists, cultural icons, and fans will gather around the world to raise their voices and act in solidarity with the Iranian people’s struggle for basic human rights.

A participant’s involvement in ArtsUnited4Iran could range from a song performed in a coffeehouse, living room, community center or workplace, to a photographic display, a poetry slam, a gallery exhibit, a theatrical performance to a rock concert. The possibilities of how to participate in ArtsUnited4Iran are limitless – it should be an event with a non-partisan message focusing on the issues revolving around human rights in Iran.

Whether you are a world famous artist, artist in the making, writer, musician, or performance artist, we encourage you to join ArtsUnited4Iran as we remind the international community of the Iranian peoples’ ongoing struggle to attain guaranteed rights.

This December, International Human Rights Day (IHRD), coincides with the 61^st anniversary of the General Assembly’s adoption and proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as with the six month anniversary of June 12^th, the beginning of the peaceful protests in Iran that were violently put down. IHRD is honored by people and human rights organizations around the world raised to action in support of human rights.
